Which is better, argan oil or coconut oil?

Which is better, argan oil or coconut oil

Argan oil is derived from the argan tree commonly found in Morocco. It is mostly available in the market as pure oil, which can be applied topically, and as an ingredient in many cosmetic products. It can also be ingested when in capsule form in order to achieve health benefits.

Argan oil is rich in vitamin E. Thus, it can act as an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

Argan Oil vs. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil, which comes from coconut palms, is beneficial in many ways.

First, it is edible and can be used in cooking. Second, it contains healthy saturated fats that raise the amount of good cholesterol in the body. This also promotes fat burning in the body.

Third, it contains fatty acids that help kill bacteria and fungi. Lastly, it can be used in cosmetics. Coconut oil has beneficial effects on the skin and hair.

Both oils offer many and similar benefits. So which is better to use between the two? The answer depends on the user's purpose.

In terms of composition, argan contains a much higher amount of healthy fatty acids compared to coconut. Both oils contain Vitamin E. However, Vitamin D is only present in the former while vitamin K is only present in the latter.

Acne

Coconut oil can clog pores and may not be effective in treating acne.

On the other hand, argan oil is better for the face as it is lighter and does not clog the pores. It also prevents excess oil production.

Skin Moisture

Between the two, argan oil is more common in lotions, soaps, and cream. It has a light consistency and tends to get absorbed easily.

Coconut oil, on the other hand, tends to be very greasy when applied to the skin. However, it can be an effective makeup remover and it can soften chapped lips.

Hair

Both oils are very popular in shampoo products.

Argan oil contains vitamin D which promotes the growth of healthy and strong hair. It also helps restore hair from damages like split ends.

Coconut oil also helps repair hair damages. Many people also use coconut oil as an overnight hair treatment. However, the oil can be hard to rinse off.

In the three areas discussed above, argan oil seems to be the better choice as it’s more versatile.
